Do you know, since 2001, China has been a participant in the World Trade Organization? It has opened opportunities for business for so many countries. Moreover, China is the largest industrial base in the world with the fastest-growing consumer market. No doubt, English is the predominant business language in the world but we cannot deny the importance of the Chinese language due to the enormous consumer market. English-speaking countries often face difficulty in penetrating the Chinese market because they have to deal with Chinese companies. Here is where  Chinese to English translation services come into play.

    Chinese Language

Chinese is the oldest and most spoken language in the world. Due to business opportunities in China, the Chinese language is extending its popularity and gaining an important position in the world of linguists. It consists of pictographs or ideographs that are the amalgamation of alphabetic form, language sequence, and dialects. Therefore, it is considered one of the most difficult languages to translate.

The Chinese Language has Multiple Dialects

The Chinese language has different dialects that are according to their regions such as Mandarin, Xiang, Wu, Gan, Min, Hakka, Hui, Jin, Pinghua, and Cantonese. The important thing to note is that these dialects are so different that even native speakers don’t understand each other. People living in mainland China speak Mandarin while people living in Hong Kong speak Cantonese. Therefore, before going for Chinese translation services, you must be aware of the target audience.

Chinese to English Translation and vice versa Challenges

The translation from Chinese to English and English to Chinese is full of challenges. It has resulted in the formation of the concept called Chinglish. This is the way of thinking that occurs when the Chinese way of thinking interferes with English translation. It is a matter of fact that the pattern and variation of both languages play an important role in interpreting the meaning of the native tongue. Additionally, cultural nuances, a variety of idioms, subject-verb construction, and grammatical rules also play an important role in transposing the meanings.

The translator needs to overcome many challenges while providing Chinese translation. To get impeccable translation results that fulfill your requirements, you must hire a language translation company. They know how to handle the following translation challenges.

    Character Placement

The writing style of the Chinese language makes it more difficult. Symbols in the Chinese language depict thoughts that can not be written in one way. You might be given the text that is written left to right, right to left. Moreover, it is written up and down. Translating Mandarin, especially when presented in a linear format, poses increased challenges.

    The Use of Chinese Characters

The Chinese language consists of 50,000 characters. Most of them are rarely used in daily conversation. Therefore, 500 Chinese characters make up 80% of written Chinese. Every character represents a concept or a word that can be used for different purposes. Furthermore, each character has one or different meanings. A Chinese translator faces linguistic challenges because of these characters. To get seamless Chinese translations, you need to check the context and literal meaning of each written character.

A Competent Chinese translator should be aware of the Chinese word syllable of each word. Furthermore, he should also know how to use characters independently and how to use them with other Chinese characters. In this way, they will be able to produce affluent Chinese to English translations.

    Idioms

The translation becomes more challenging when you try to translate the expression of two languages. It happens when people use indirect expressions. Although the Chinese language is more integrated with culture and tradition. Therefore, it represents localization. Chinese idioms require proper pronunciation to interpret meanings correctly. The challenge also appears when you try to describe things because English people use an object in the first part of the sentence.

    Sentence Composition

There are two types of Chinese sentences which are complex and simple. The simple sentence consists of a subject, predicate, and object. When you compare this to the English language, you will observe that a predicate is not a verb. Therefore, you can use it as an adjective.

Translators Cannot Translate all the Chinese Dialects

The Chinese language contains seven main and many other dialects. However, these dialects contain unique vocabulary that varies from each other. All the Chinese translators can’t translate all the dialects. Some translators can translate one or two dialects whereas some can translate a maximum of three dialects.

It is good if your Chinese translator is aware of different dialects but knowledge of only dialects is not enough. Therefore, the translator should know all Chinese and English grammatical rules when providing translation services. For instance, Chinese is not a tonal inflection language. Therefore, no word is emphasized. The other important thing to note is that adverbs represent Chinese language tenses despite verbs.

    Wrapping Up

Cultural and regional intricacies are important to provide state-of-the-art translation services. Therefore, to provide impeccable Chinese to English translation services, language translation agencies do not go for the word to word translation. Instead, pay attention to cultural and regional nuances. Otherwise, translation can be offensive to other cultures. Moreover, it can deviate from the true essence of translation.
