how to block wifi users in tp-link router

This article will focus mainly on How to Block WiFi Users in TP-Link Router . Barring WiFi users’ access implies that these users already have access to your WiFi in TP-Link Router. And you need to block them for good reasons.

There may be several causes for this. When internet connectivity is poor, you might need to give yourself priority over other users since you have vital tasks to complete. Security is another factor that requires WiFi users to be blocked in the TP-Link router. You wish to segregate users who may be exploiting the network by utilizing torrents or streaming videos. You may also wish to prevent activity coming from a user or device that has been compromised and is acting like a bot. Or perhaps the user just needs a break because they broke your personal or workplace regulations. Whatever the cause, you will be able to block certain users on your TP-Link Router utilizing 3 distinct techniques after completing this how-to guide.

Three Methods on How to Block WiFi Users in TP-Link Routers

Method 1: Block WiFi Users using TP-Link Tether App

The TP-Link Tether app makes it simple to administer your network from a mobile device.  Install the app after downloading it from the Google Play store.

Step 1: To use the tether app, launch it after installation. You must use your email address to register for a TP-Link account. Tap the Create a TP-Link ID button after entering your email address and creating a strong password.

Step 2: After that, sign into your account. All of your TP-Link devices will be listed there. Touch the Wi-Fi router.

Step 3: Enter the router’s web interface. It might not utilize the same login and password that you just made. The default login and password for TP-Link routers are “admin” and “admin,” respectively. If you bought the router yourself, you must replace it right away.

Step 4: Login and then select the Clients Tab. You’ll be able to see every device connected to your network, along with its name and IP address.

Step 5: To select a gadget, tap it and press the Block button. Although it can still connect to Wi-Fi, the restricted device won’t be capable of accessing the internet. It’s a “soft” block, meaning the user still feels as though they can connect but will presume there is a problem with the internet itself.

Step 6: If you decide to unblock a device, choose the device from the list of “Blocked Clients” and hit Unblock to unlock it.

Method 2: Block WiFi Users Through Access Control in TP-Link

You can ban specific client devices using the Access Control feature in the TP-Link web interface if you don’t want to utilize the app. No matter which TP-Link router model you use, this applies because TP-Link has partially simplified the user interface of their router admin panels. TP-Link routers have an easy-to-use setup screen with tabs for different functions on the left, an options screen in the middle, and a help screen on the right that explains what each setting does.

Step 1: Use a browser to access the router. Its address is https://192.168.0.1 by default. Enter the router’s username and password. Again, the default username and password for TP-Link routers are “admin” and “admin,” respectively. Your username and password must be entered before the router admin panel can be accessed.

Step 2: The MAC address of the device must be obtained. By selecting the “DHCP Client List” under the DHCP tab to view a list of the network-connected devices, you can find the device’s MAC address. Write down the MAC Address.

Step 3: Select the Host page by tapping under Access Control. It will show a list of the gadgets. Click the Add New button since the device is not yet listed. After pasting the MAC address, write a description that would be the name of the device and then click Save.

Step 4: Browse the Rules page next. Check the box next to “Enable Internet Access Control.” To ensure that you keep your connection, make sure Allow is turned on. Then select Save.

    disconnect unknown devices from WiFi

By selecting the Add New option here, you may add a new rule. Enter the device name in the description field. Choose the device you previously created on the Access Control Host page in the LAN Host box. Select Deny under Rule and OUT under Direction. Then select Save.

    control devices connected to WiFi

Step 5: The new regulation will be implemented to the device after you click Save. To add new devices, simply repeat the process. Unable to access the internet, restricted devices might still join the network.

Step 6: If you wish to unblock the device, Choose the device by checking the appropriate box, then click Disable Selected to unblock the user.

Method 3: Block WiFi Users Through MAC Filtering in TP-Link

In addition to setting Access Control Rules, there is another technique to ban TP-Link WiFi users, and that is through MAC filtering.

Step 1: Activate the DHCP Tab. Visit the DHCP Clients List page after that. Copy the device’s MAC address.

Step 2: Navigate to the “Wireless MAC Filtering” page from the Wireless Tab. To turn on MAC filtering, click the Enable button. Choose the Deny option to prevent the devices mentioned there from connecting to the internet.

Step 3: Select “Add New” from the menu. Type the MAC address first, followed by the description (the device name). Select Save.

To add more devices, redo these procedures. This time, the router will completely block access to prohibited users, unlike the other ways.

Step 4: Hit on the Edit link for the appropriate device if you want to remove someone from the list of blocked people. Then click Save after selecting Disabled from the Status box. The device is still listed, but it is not prohibited.

    Conclusion

That’s it for our guide on How to Block WiFi Users in TP-Link Routers. We showed three methods so it’s up to you which one you should follow. It is good to share an internet connection for practical reasons, but sometimes, situations call in to restrict others.
