    Frequently Asked Questions

The ice maker won’t turn on. What should I do?

If you already followed the steps above and your ice maker hasn’t started after a few minutes of waiting, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

    1. Make sure you press and hold the power button when you turn on your Samsung ice maker. The pressure should not be too soft and not too hard, just enough to fully pushed
    2. Check the water inlet valve. It should be open all the way to make sure that the water flows into your ice maker
    3. Wait for a few minutes. The first batch of ice usually takes a while to make.

If the troubleshooting steps above still do not work for you, you may refer to your Samsung refrigerator’s owner’s manual. You can also contact Samsung’s customer service for help.

Can I use my SmartThings app to turn the ice maker on?

Yes! Using your SmartThings app, you will be able to turn the ice maker on your Samsung refrigerator on or off. Additionally, you can also check the current settings, and the status and progress of ice making on the app. Just note that this function will still vary depending on the make and model of your Samsung refrigerator.

My Samsung ice maker does not produce enough ice

Samsung refrigerators can make 1 tray of ice every 90 minutes or 120 ice cubes a day. This will still vary depending on the make and model of your refrigerator, but most Samsung refrigerators produce this amount of ice.

If your Samsung ice maker only produces 50 or less ice cubes in 24 hours, or no ice cubes at all, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

    1. If you haven’t used your Samsung refrigerator for a long time (unplugged) or you just bought it, you need to make sure it has been on and operating for at least six hours
    2. Make sure that the doors are closed completely and properly. Your Samsung ice maker won’t dispense ice if the door is not completely closed
    3. Check display settings on your refrigerator
      • Check if your Samsung refrigerator display shows “ICE OFF.” Your can turn this on by pressing the “Ice Type” button
      • Make sure that the Child Lock function is off. The ice making functionality turns off automatically when Child Lock is enabled
      • Set the temperature setting in your Samsung freezer compartment at a lower setting. We recommend setting it to -15 ℃ or lower
      • Reset your ice dispenser. When you do this, it will take 24 hours for the Samsung ice maker to start making ice again
    4. Double check the water filter indicator. If your ice maker produces small, lumpy, or cloudy ice, you need to replace the water filter. Your Samsung ice maker’s filter should be replaced every 6 months

NOTE: You will need to throw the first three batches of ice cubes away. This is to make sure that your Samsung ice maker is already producing clean ice

If the steps we shared above did not work, you may refer to your Samsung refrigerator’s owner’s manual or call their customer service support for additional assistance.

You have three options to seek further help from Samsung support. The first option is to contact them online through WhatsApp, via email, or live chat. You may also call their phone support for real time assistance, or go to a Samsung support center.
