Messages is Google’s official app for texting and chat in Android. In the new version of the Messages app, Google included the ability to log in from the web. Now, you’re able to send and receive text messages right from any web browser on your PC. Here’s how to use Android Messages for web.
Set Up Android Messages for web
Step 1: Install Android Messages app
To set up Messages for web, you need to install the latest version of the Messages app in your Android device.
Step 2: Go to Android Messages website
Go to messages.android.com on a computer browser you want to receive your Android messages on. You’ll see a QR code on the right side of this page.
Step 3: Scan the QR code
Open Messages app on your smartphone. Tap the menu icon on the top right. Then click ‘Messages for web’. Tap ‘QR code scanner’ and scan the QR code at messages.android.com. Now, you should see your conversations show up on your browser.
Send and Receive New Messages
To start a new conversation, click ‘start chat’ button on the top of your message history list. Then type the name, phone number or email address of the contacts you want to send a message to. If you want to start a group chat, click on ‘start group conversation’, and select your contacts.
In the text entry field, type your message. You can also add stickers, emoji, gifs, and attach files. now, click the arrow button to send it.
When you have unread messages, you will see a red notification with the number of unread messages in the browser tab.
Check Out Different Settings
In the settings area, there are a couple of things we recommend checking out. Here you can enable or disable notifications, message preview, audio notifications, dark mode, high contrast mode etc.
If you turn on ‘Remember this computer’ option, it will keep your phone paired with your computer, even if you close the browser tab. Remember, you shouldn’t turn this on if you’re using a public PC.
To log out from Messages for web, select ‘sign out’ from the menu. you can also log out using your phone in the ‘Messages for web’ area.

Note:
- Messages for web can’t work independently without your smartphone. So, if your battery dies or if your phone is not connected to the internet, you won’t be able to send or receive texts on your pc.
- Messages for web works with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. But, it doesn’t support the Internet Explorer browser.
