A Quick Response (QR) code is a unique code that stores a small amount of data such as website URL, contact details, static text, etc. It gives you instant access to the information in the code. QR codes are now everywhere – train platforms, shopping malls, postcards and other printed materials. If you’ve found yourself in a situation where you need to scan a QR code, here’s a simple solution for you. You actually don’t need to download an application for QR code scanning. Your Google Assistant has a feature that scans QR codes, as well as bar codes.

Google Assistant is natively available in all the latest Android phones. If you have one on your phone, then it will be easy for you to scan QR codes using your phone. To use this feature you will need to be on the latest version of the app. To update the app in the Play Store, you may refer to this link.

Next, open Google Assistant app in your preferred way. The most common way to this this is by pressing and holding the home button on your device.

Four lines with different colors will start moving, indicating your Assistant awaits your voice command. Tap on it to stop Assistant from listening. Once it stops listening, new options appear.

    open Google Lens

You’ll find Google Lens icon to the left of the mic. Tap on it.

If it’s the first time you’re using this function, you’ve to grant it camera access.

Afterwards, your screen will show what you can see with Lens. Just swipe that away. Scan the QR code by pointing your camera at the QR code. You screen will instantly display the contents in the QR code you just scanned. If it is text, you’ll find Google search results for it. In my case, it’s the URL of this blog – tapping on it navigates to asoftclicks.com.

Note: Before you start scanning a QR code, make sure your phone is connected to the internet. Otherwise, it may not be able to show any available information.

That’s it! You’re good to go!
